The 15th edition of Micro Festival returns to Liège, Belgium, from August 1–3, 2025, continuing its legacy as one of Europe’s most community-driven and exploratory alternative music gatherings. Focused on discovery, sustainability, and inclusivity, the Micro Festival has built a loyal following for its non-mainstream programming and local-first approach.
But more on that later.

Introduction to Micro Festival 2025
Launched in 2010, Micro Festival champions values that go beyond music: conviviality, equality, and eco-consciousness. There’s a strict no-tolerance policy toward discrimination or violence, and the atmosphere leans heavily toward DIY culture and neighborhood spirit.
It marks one of the few festivals taking such a strong approach to ensuring comfort and representativeness. This is especially important for Belgium, which has faced racist incidents at nightclubs across the city. We can attest to this with our own experiences of a few venues.
Micro Festival really shines as a festival sincerely focused on music and memory making as opposed to the negatives that can come with mass orientated operations. Situated in Liege, it also provided an great boost to the local economy.
For its 2025 edition, Micro Festival once again partners with Belgium Booms, which supports international networking by hosting professional meetups with agents and festival programmers. Expect label heads, booking agents, and artists to be mingling throughout the site—though Micro keeps its crowds manageable and its production scale intentionally small.

Artist to Watch at Micro Festival: Anika

Anika—born Annika Henderson—is a Berlin-based British-German artist and former political journalist whose music merges dub, post-punk, and minimal electronica. Her haunting vocals and sparse instrumentation recall both Nico and PIL-era John Lydon, but with a pointed political tone.
Read more about her latest release here.
Her 2021 LP “Change” (Invada Records) marked a turn toward more structured songwriting while retaining her lo-fi roots. She is also the leading creative behind Exploded View. Known internationally for both her solo work and collaborations, Anika’s set at Micro Festival will likely feature stripped-down synth lines, slow-burning grooves, and anti-establishment lyricism.
Her live shows tend to blur the line between performance and protest. Or at least her last show in Brussels felt exactly like that. Her music, especially the new release Abyss, is an ideal fit for Micro’s ethos.
Anika features in Halftone Magazine’s Issue 02 released July 31st, 2025.
