Mort Garson’s “Journey to the Moon and Beyond” Reissue
The Mort Garson reissuing continues with the latest from Sacred Bones. Since their 2019 reissue of “Plantasia,” Mort Garson’s Moogs have been resurging in popular culture, making appearances in TV shows, documentaries, podcasts, and even hip-hop tracks. Now, the Mort Garson archives present “Journey to the Moon and Beyond”.
This collection features compositions from Mort Garson’s career. It includes the soundtrack for the 1974 blaxploitation film “Black Eye,” starring Fred Williamson, as well as newly unearthed music created for advertising. One of the standout tracks is “Zoos of the World,”.
Garson’s iconic soundtrack was live broadcast of the historic 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, as originally heard on CBS News. Garson’s six-minute masterpiece features broad fantasias, whirring mooncraft sounds, squelches, and more, showcasing Mort’s range of sound.
Mort Garson’s legacy remains celebrated for his early adoption of Moog synthesizers in the late 1960s. His diverse body of work includes concept records, novelty albums, theatrical scores, arranging for other artists, and an extensive list of commercial credits. This reissue more than demonstrates Garson’s timeless sound. The album is available from July 21 via Sacred Bones.
